Local News stand
This image is of a news stand at local news agent near where i live. This image consist both children’s magazines and adult’s
magazines. The layout for a genre is completely different. For the children’s
magazines the layout of magazines consist of a free freebies as clearly shown on the image . This
will draw the attract the attention of customer and buyers urge them to buy it. Also for the children’s
magazines they have used bright colours. The titles of the magazines are short
and big so it’s easy to remember and read. The children’s magazines have also been put at the
bottom so it’s easier for them to see and reach. For the adults magazines they
have been placed higher so they can get a direct view of them these magazines
look more sophisticated. The magazine has big and bold letters so it’s easy and
eye catching. The magazines have got all the famous celebrities images on them.
The magazines layout is in the left third this is where the left third of the
magazine is shown. This is where the cover lines/taglines are places also the
image is more towards the left side so its clear to see whom the magazines will
be about.Distributions
Magazine distribution is a delivery to centers The method works on what is know as "sale or return",which the distributor gives a set number of magazine to the store, the remaining magazines are returned to the distributor without any cost at all. It is a risk free and attracts prospect to the retailer, but consequences to this method can be very costly and waste a large amount of resources such as ecological costs. online magazine subscriptions, or 'ezine' are cost effective, and doesn't require the cost of sale and return as well as being instantly available to the buyer. Other means of distribution is subscription via tablet devices such the Kindle Fire, or Apple product such as ipad, iphone or ipod touch, they allow access to exclusive apps New! OK! ELLE, Cosmopolitan.

School Magazine Evaulation
What went well?
I did well at the photography, arranging the magazine
features on the front cover and research.I had taken this image using a Canon
600D.The photograph came out clear and I was pleased with how the photograph
came out. As part of my plan for the
front cover I wanted to add an anchorage. An anchorage adds meaning. E.g. an
image that relates to the texts. The text for my anchorage was “ Are you
dressed for the job”
What I did well at
- Researching
I did some research on what college magazines contain in
their contents page and what they have on the front cover. As any other college
magazine, they always have a photograph of the student as the front cover – the
student is taken from a medium shot (from the waist up), the student looking
towards the audience, smiling to give a warm feeling and appeal the audience.
If the model isn’t looking to the camera /audience then there will normally be
an anchorage to relate to the models actions.
What went well:
Arranging the magazine features
I learnt to name and analyse magazine features, especially
the main features included. In my magazine I included, an anchorage, barcode
and teasers. I arranged the page so that the teasers are on the right hand side
and the anchorage is on the left hand side near the image. I only had three
sections on my front cover because I didn’t want to make the front over crowed
with text. I had made the heading large so that it was easy for viewers for
read and make the magazine stand out. I was able to use the space provided, I
filled up the pages by adding large images, large text and giving the
background a colour. I particular found that the contents page went well as the
contents page was presentable. It has all the contents page requirements:
subheadings, images and a bold title.
What do I need to
improve on?
Completing the task I was able to recognise my weakness
through the task. What I need to improve on the most is the placement of
adverts. On the contents page, I was confused of where to place the advert – I
found this a difficulty as I didn’t want the advert to overlapping anything.
For me to avoid me overlapping anything I placed the advert in the middle of
the page where there was gap, where it was easier to notice.
Key Points of
development.
1. It is
important to have a target audience for your magazine as that it’s relevant to
the audience. E.g. if you do a magazine targeted to women, you would do
articles or pages about fashion (this is something that women like)
2. It’s also
required to do research on what appeals the audience; this makes it easier on
how to grab the audience’s attention. It can be anything from freebies to
competition that people may take part in

We over-viewed Photoshop within lesson today. Here are some
useful commands i learned to assist me in creating my magazine cover.
- · H selects the hand tool which allows you to navigate around the document without moving anything. Holding the CTRL key allow you to zoom in with this tool, while Alt zooms out. This is particularly useful, as cover image need to be zoomed into, and allows an easier means to erase areas of the masthead from main image.
- · E selects the Eraser tool, which allows you to clear up content, essential in removing overlay masthead from main image.
- · X switches the fore and background colours scheme, along with a background colour, and a general conventional maximum of three.
- · [this command decreases the brush size, including tools such as the eraser, this allows access to more constrained areas with greater ease.
- · ] an inverse of the above
- · Ctrl – 0 fits the document on screen, this is useful to see the cover a whole quickly and efficiently, and as a means to take screenshots, as well as seeing how the product looks like.
- · Ctrl-Alt-Shift-N creates a new layer at the top of command area, magazine covers consist of many layer so this is very useful.
- · Ctrl-Z undoes the later command, a way to remove mistakes. Ctrl-Alt-Z removes any commands prior.
- · Ctrl – T uses the Free Transform features features of Photoshop, which is often used to change the size for type or images as part of the cover, holding shift when dragging uses the constrain command, which evenly increase or decreases the size of the item, this keeps images and fonts looking professional.
- · F un hides the ruler fuction, this is useful for aligning things and creating margins
